Current Switch 2 file size

Nintendo Australia's product page currently lists the Nintendo Switch 2 version at 31.9 GB. That replaces the 34.1 GB value captured in an older version of this guide. If you found 34.1 GB in a search snippet or an older copy, use 31.9 GB as the newer official-store value checked on September 2, 2026.

This is a regional product-page value, not a guarantee that the final installed footprint, a launch update, or every Nintendo region will show exactly the same number. Leave extra free space and check your own eShop before downloading.

Other details on Nintendo's page

The same listing states:

  1. Release date: September 4, 2026
  2. Players: one player
  3. Play modes: TV, tabletop, and handheld
  4. Save feature: Save Data Cloud support is listed
  5. Languages: the page lists multiple supported languages, including Chinese

These labels support a platform snapshot. They do not confirm a Switch 2 demo or a specific frame-rate, resolution, or performance mode.

Why Steam says 50 GB

Steam's PC requirements currently ask for 50 GB of available storage and an SSD. That is a PC system requirement, not an exact download-size figure, so it should not be compared directly with Nintendo's 31.9 GB listing as if one of them must be wrong.

Different platforms can use different asset packages, compression, update files, and installation overhead. This page therefore does not convert the PC requirement into a Switch 2, PS5, or Xbox install size.

Quick answer: plan around Nintendo's current 31.9 GB listing, keep additional space for updates, and use your local eShop as the final check.
